DIAGNOSIS OF SPINAL CONDITIONS

Patients visit our practice with a variety of symptoms, including pain, altered sensations such as pins and needles, heat, numbness, decreased bowel and bladder control, reduced mobility, and changes in spinal curvature.
Clinical History and Examination:
During your initial appointment, our spinal consultants will conduct a physical examination and take a detailed patient history. This will cover the onset, duration, and nature of your spinal symptoms, treatments tried or currently in use, past medical and surgical history, current medications, social history, and a review of all provided x-rays and scans. If further imaging or tests are needed for diagnosis, a referral will be provided.
DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
X-Rays:
A standing x-ray is a useful and straightforward method to assess bone structure, alignment, and instability. It is particularly effective for diagnosing scoliosis by monitoring and measuring the progression of spinal curvature.
CT Scans:
Computed Tomography (CT) scans provide detailed images of soft tissues, blood vessels, and the bony structures of the spine.
MRI Scans:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetic field radio frequencies to create a 3D view of the spinal column’s soft tissue structures, particularly the spinal nerves and discs. It can also provide detailed images of infections, tumors, and soft tissue injuries. This procedure does not involve radiation.
